This position is day shift and weekend work is only as needed. What you will do as a General Maintenance II Worker The General Maintenance II Worker performs construction renovations and alterations in a commercial setting to areas both on and off campus. This position leads/recommends Electrician initiatives to the R&A Shop Manager regarding installing, maintaining, modifying, repairing, and removal of Electrical systems, devices, and related controls. This position provides journeyman level Electrician expertise. Supports all other Trades aspects of Renovation & Alterations Shop. Responsible for maintaining commercial buildings in a safe, orderly, and proper working condition. Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in a commercial setting to the electrical trade. As a team member of the Renovation & Alterations Shop, the position will also perform work in support of other trades including plumbing, painting/drywall, carpentry, and HVAC work as well as demolition work. Skills/Abilities: Punctual and dependable attendance. Ability to perform all aspects of electrician trade. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions. Ability to work in extreme hot or cold area. Ability to communicate well utilizing both written and oral instructions. Ability to read, follow and interpret safety rules and guidelines. Knowledge of computer operation. Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques. Skill in estimating time and material requirements of work projects assigned. Ability to operate tools, machines, and other equipment related to electrical trade. Ability to stand for prolonged periods, climb, pull, and lift heavy objects. Demonstrates requirements of safety and exhibits good safety habits. Attention to detail regarding operating of motor vehicle (flatbed, box truck, pickup, etc) Ability to use hand tools as necessary. Good hand and eye coordination. Respectful of machinery and treats it accordingly. Demonstrates quality of making sure that jobs are properly completed on schedule. Ability to independently complete tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to analyze and fix problems in a manner which results in minimal downtime. Understanding Safety Data Sheet ( SDS ) requirements and is familiar with location and use of SDS information. Understands the need for urgency with ability to prioritize. Maintains a calm demeanor in pressure situations. Follows through on work assignments to satisfactory completion. Assumes responsibilities for actions. Knowledge and ability to follow oral and written instructions. Actively participates in process improvements and exhibits good improvement process habits. Ability to not only generate improvement ideas, but also follows through to completion, ensuring the benefits are realized. Ability to bring up potential solutions to problems when they arise. Uses knowledge and experience to identify and ultimately solve problems that are affecting equipment/process performance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
