General Assignment Reporter - Community Focus
About The Position
The Edwardsville Intelligencer is looking for a motivated, community-minded journalist to help tell the stories of the people, places, and developments that make Edwardsville and Glen Carbon unique. This reporter will play a key role in our highly regarded community coverage—writing engaging features, spotlighting local businesses and individuals, and helping readers understand the forces shaping growth and change in the region. This is a part-time hourly position (up to 29 hours per week), with a schedule primarily Monday through Friday. The Intelligencer is part of Hearst, providing strong mentorship, a collaborative newsroom environment, and opportunities for professional growth. Responsibilities
- Produce compelling feature stories on local restaurants, businesses, community members, and events.
- Develop enterprise features on local agriculture, medicine, and other community institutions.
- Report on economic growth and development with a people-centered approach that connects policy, business trends, and everyday life.
- Contribute to additional assignments as needed, including general news and community happenings.
