About The Position

The General Superintendent of Light Rail is responsible for the service delivery of safe, clean, and efficient Light Rail Operations. This role provides leadership and direction for Light Rail maintenance and transportation functions, ensuring regulatory compliance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The position involves establishing and implementing Light Rail policies and procedures, presenting modifications and improvements to services as necessary for the benefit and strategic goal of the Authority, and overseeing the operating budget for Light Rail Operations. This position has been identified as having responsibility for transit safety oversight at MARTA and is required to comply with the training requirements identified in the Authority’s Agency Safety Plan, which must be completed within 3 years of employment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or directly related experience substituted on a year-for-year basis.
• Minimum of six years of experience in either Street Car, Light Rail, or Heavy Rail.
• Four years of experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Knowledge of labor contracts.
• Maximum knowledge of management of operational and administrative programs of considerable scope given tight deadlines, extreme pressure, and adverse conditions.
• Knowledge of MARTA Rail Operation Procedures, rolling stock equipment, work equipment, information and signal systems, emergency and safety procedures, Light Rail maintenance and service requirements.
• TSI certificate in safety must be obtained within six months in position.
• Participation in MARTA's Drug & Alcohol Program.
• Compliance with training requirements for transit safety oversight within 3 years of employment.
