The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The Western North Carolina Farmers Market is a state-owned facility covering 36 acres. It is comprised of retail and wholesale areas, a garden center and restaurant. The primary purpose of the market is to provide an outlet for farmers to sell their products and a place for consumers to buy those products. Fruit and vegetable inspection services and general agricultural marketing assistance are also available. The market is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year-round. This position is subject to work any hours. This position serves as a gatekeeper at the WNC Farmers Market. The Gatekeeper regulates entry, collects selling and/or delivery charges, enforces market rules and regulations, and provides security. In the absence of other management, they receive and resolve issues on the market as they arise. Gate personnel serve as the first point of contact for persons entering the market and present a lasting impression to the market’s customers and vendors.
