Department DH GI LAB PAV L Job Summary Assists medical teams using endoscopes to diagnose or treat patients with gastrointestinal problems. Endoscopy techs are medical assistants that interact with patients and help physicians and nurses that specialize in gastrointestinal (GI) medicine. They prepare the room, equipment, and assist during endoscopy procedures. Provides support to physicians and nurses while the procedure is underway, handle specimens collected, and preform high level disinfection of endoscopy equipment. Care for patients who need screenings, have stomach or intestine problems, or those who are undergoing treatment for serious illnesses like colorectal cancer. Essential Functions: Performs High Level Disinfection of endoscopy equipment. (20%) Processes patient intake. (20%) Prepares and disassembles rooms for procedures. (10%) Transports patient. (10%) Charts in medical record of physician observations and patient interactions. (10%) Collects patient biopsies and specimens. (10%) Assists physician and RN with invasive procedures and other duties to contribute to the flow of the unit. (10%) Assists physician in complicated procedures that utilize fluoroscopy. (10%) Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred. Work Experience: 1-3 years of experience as a medical professional assisting patients and medical teams required. Licenses: BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association required. CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - AAMA - American Association of Medical Assistants required -OR- LPN-Licensed Practical Nurse - LPC State Licensing Board required -OR- CNA-Certified Nurse Aide - ANCC - American Nurses Credentialing Center required -OR- EMTB-EMT Basic - CO - State of Colorado required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Gastrointestinal procedures. Good hand-eye coordination, priority decision making skills and organizational skills. Works well as a team player and has excellent communication skills. Must be able to perform procedures wearing a lead apron. Epic and Provation charting experience, preferred. Certifications that are applicable to Gastroenterology related to High Level Disinfection and/or Sterile processing, preferred. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a medical professional assisting patients and medical teams required.
