Beloit Health System is hiring a Gastroenterology Technician to join our Gastroenterology Department at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Shift: 1st shift Schedule: 7a-4:30p Hours per week: 40 hours per week Benefits Status: Benefits Eligible Department: BMH Gastroenterology The GI Technician is responsible for assisting the physician and RN during Gastroenterology procedures, safe transport of the patient between room and lab, and appropriate equipment maintenance. The GI Technician will: Apply specialty knowledge to patient care situations. Accurately perform set up procedures with appropriate equipment in an effective manner according to the day's schedule of cases. Report any suspected defects or malfunctions to RN. Demonstrate ability to assist physicians directly in special procedures including sigmoidoscopy, esophageal dilatation, endoscopy and colonoscopy. Ensure that labeled specimens are transported to the lab. Participate in QA monitoring and interpretation of data. Strictly adhere to infection control policies including body substance isolation, blood borne pathogen precautions and aseptic techniques. Accurately perform routine inspections and cleaning of Gl equipment. Perform unit specific duties according to established policies and procedures. Accurately assist with vital sign monitoring of patients including blood pressure, TPR, pulse oximetry and reports to RN or MD. Maintain adequate levels and orderly storage of supplies. Accurately completes patient charges, unit and patient records. Demonstrates active participation in unit QA programs. JOB REQUIREMENTS High school graduate with two-three years of experience in the health care field. Able to perform simple math addition and subtraction as well as read and understand written material. Must be CPR certified or certification eligible within three months of hire. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation. Ability to work independently with little supervision. Employee possesses the training, knowledge, and skills necessary to perform one or more of the following activities (evaluation, treatment, and/or patientcare) for patients in one or more of the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric. Understands and follows directions, demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills. Maintain ethical conduct and keep confidential personal and medical information about patients. Involves physical effort that includes walking, sitting, twisting, standing long periods of time. Fine finger movements, use of hands involves handling delicate instrument, gripping and assisting the physician with placement and injection of medication. Occasional lifts and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Transports patients on carts. Must be able to push 50-200'pounds. Requires ability to see and hear at a level sufficient to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Will be required to work in other areas as needed. Reporting Relationship: Registered Nurse, Clinical Manager, and Department Director.
