About The Position
This position provides general labor support for the Gas Department of the City of Lebanon. The work involves assisting and leading a group of employees in the construction and maintenance of the gas distribution system. This is a safety sensitive or security position.
Requirements
- Knowledge of materials and equipment used in gas services.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with public and other employees.
- Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities in Gas Distribution.
- Skill operation in tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work safely.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A valid Tennessee Driver License and clear driving record. If a candidate does not have a valid Tennessee driver's license, they must acquire one within 30 days of hire.
Responsibilities
- Works construction crew for laying and maintenance of gas pipelines.
- Paint gas meters.
- Operates various types of light equipment such as shovels, picks, etc.
- May operate heavy equipment such as back-hoe, pavement breaker and trencher.
- Trains in techniques of plastic pipe welding.
- Maintains equipment in good working condition.
- Helps load and unload trucks.
