About The Position

The Gas Transmission Operator is a member of the natural gas transmission system crew. The Gas Transmission Operator is responsible for controlling and monitoring flows and pressures on the Northwestern Energy natural gas transmission, storage, distribution, and production systems located in Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska as well as the Havre Pipeline Company system located in Montana. The Gas Transmission Operator will be expected to learn all functions of the job, including remote operation of compressors, regulators as well as recognizing and reacting to abnormal operating conditions. Requirements

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to think clearly and function appropriately in high stress situations
  • Able to make decisions quickly and accurately
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong continuous computer operating experience and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to quickly learn specialized computer applications
  • Must obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) certification for operation of gas system
  • Five (5) week rotating shift that includes twelve (12) hour rotating shift work is required as well as 8 hour training shifts
  • Some overnight travel is required up 0-5%

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for controlling and monitoring flows on the NorthWestern Energy natural gas transmission, storage, distribution, and production systems, including transmission tie lines with other utilities
  • Record and report transmission, storage, distribution, and production systems data and complete other tasks as assigned by supervisors
  • Recognize and respond to abnormal operating conditions and implement real-time actions that ensure stable and reliable operation of the natural gas transmission system
  • Coordinating flows with other gas transmission lines connected to the Northwestern Energy transmission and distribution systems and recording and reporting transmission system
  • Assumes responsibility and authority to implement real-time actions that ensure stable and reliable operations of the natural gas transmission system
  • Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives
