Southern Cross is hiring for a full-time position that involves surveying natural gas pipelines and driving an Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle. This dual role requires flexibility to work days and nights, with driving assignments typically lasting 3 days to 6 months and primarily completed at night (3rd shift, sundown - early AM, typically 8 hours per day). Technicians will receive per diem for meals and approved expenses, paid travel, and hotel when traveling. Travel to AMLD assignments can be by flying or driving, depending on distance. Technicians will also be cross-trained in traditional gas leak survey, which involves assignments of varied durations, primarily completed during the day. Training is typically 4-5 weeks (paid) and includes learning to accurately detect and classify natural gas leaks, walking 5 or more miles per day, and working outdoors in all weather conditions and diverse environments (vehicular traffic, residential, commercial, rural, tall grass, uneven areas, fields, city sidewalks, alleyways, and potential encounters with dogs and wildlife).
