About The Position

Southern Cross is hiring for a full-time position that includes surveying natural gas pipelines and the opportunity to travel to other locations around the country driving an Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle. This dual role as a gas leak survey technician and driver requires flexibility to work days and nights as needed. Driving assignments have varied durations (3 days to 6 months) and are primarily completed at night, typically 8 hours per day on a 3rd shift (sundown - early AM). The Field Service Technician will fly or drive to AMLD assignments depending on distance from the home project. Technicians will also be cross-trained in traditional gas leak survey, with assignments having varied durations and primarily completed during the day. Training is typically 4-5 weeks (paid) and involves learning to accurately detect and classify natural gas leaks, walking 5 or more miles per day, and working outdoors in all weather conditions and environments, including vehicular traffic, residential, commercial, and rural areas, and potentially encountering dogs and wildlife.

Requirements

  • Flexible to travel up to 75% of the time
  • Ability to fly/drive anywhere in the U.S.
  • Mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot technology as needed
  • Ability to drive in all-weather conditions
  • Ability to learn training material in classroom format and/or online courses and be able to pass all qualification tests for this role
  • Comfortable driving survey vehicle at 15mph for 4 hours straight in between breaks
  • Ability to sit and drive 8 hours per day
  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, and walk several miles per day
  • Ability to carry a minimum of 20 lbs. of equipment
  • Possess excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Available for overtime (which may include weekends)
  • Comfortable using computers/technology

  • Some comfort with technology and a willingness to learn in a technical environment is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Survey natural gas pipelines
  • Travel to other locations around the country driving the Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle
  • Drive nightly, typically 8 hours per day, working 3rd shift (sundown - early AM)
  • Accurately detect and classify natural gas leaks
  • Adhere to all safety and quality policies and procedures
  • Observe and follow all company/client procedures
  • Effectively communicate with customers in a courteous manner, displaying excellent customer service
  • Perform other duties as assigned
