About The Position

Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking collaborative and organized Garden Activities Managers who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As a Garden Activities Manager, you will be directly teaching students, creating curriculum for outdoor education, giving tours to classes and visitors, and hosting evening events for summer campers. This person will be responsible for overseeing the development of the sustainability-related summer curriculum for students of a variety of ages and grades. They will support the Sustainability Department's non-camp-related evening events and assist the department with various projects as assigned. They are also responsible for supporting the Sustainability Department staff on projects around the site when not working directly on instructional or activity needs.

Responsibilities

  • Experienced teacher capable of designing curriculum, implementing effective classroom management strategies, and teaching about the outdoors.
  • Maintains both consumable evening rec supplies (food, crafts, etc.) and the inventory of hard goods (pots, pans, grills, etc.) provided by the Sustainability Department.
  • Highly organized with the Sustainability Department inventory and storage areas, ensuring the care and return of equipment and recognizing when replacements are needed. Assists with placing all purchase orders and shopping for evening rec activities and events.
  • Supports other department staff on site-related gardening and projects, as needed.
  • Contributes to all aspects of the Sustainability Department programs (including evening events, public tours, and projects within the department).
  • Oversees and maintains the pavilion and outdoor kitchen space during the summer months/camp season.
  • Seeks the best use of materials, equipment, and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Complies with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances.
  • Respects the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, their families, and the community.
  • Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
