About The Position

The Gang Foreman leads a work crew (“gang”) in marine terminal operations, overseeing daily activities such as cargo handling, vessel operations, equipment usage, and yard or dock work. This role is responsible for ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and to operational standards, while serving as the primary link between frontline labor and terminal supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of experience in marine terminal, stevedoring, dock, or heavy industrial operations
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising work crews in a marine, port, or industrial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of cargo handling operations, vessel loading/unloading processes, and terminal workflows
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations, job safety analysis (JHA), and safe work practices in a marine or heavy equipment setting
  • Ability to effectively communicate instructions and expectations to diverse crews in a fast‑paced, high‑risk environment
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot operational issues and make sound decisions under time‑sensitive conditions
  • Comfortable performing hands‑on work in outdoor conditions and alongside crew members as operational needs require
  • Basic computer skills and ability to complete reports, logs, or time documentation
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Active TWIC Card
  • Expose to all outdoor environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind, cold and high humidity during shifts
  • Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, bend forward, squat, twist, pinch and reach overhead
  • Employee is required to climb 50ft+ vertical ladder
  • Employee is frequently required to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Employee may be required to reach forward, sit, grasp and exercise repetitive foot and wrist motion and finger dexterity. Eye-hand and eye-hand-foot coordination may also be required.
  • Employee is frequently required to talk and hear
  • Employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, push and pull up to 30 pounds or more.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate daily work activities for assigned gang crews during vessel, yard, or terminal operations
  • Assign tasks based on operational needs, crew skills, and safety requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational policies and procedures
  • Provide on-the-job guidance, coaching, and training to crew members
  • Monitor cargo handling, equipment operation, and work quality to meet productivity and performance expectations
  • Troubleshoot operational issues as they arise and escalate concerns when necessary
  • Ensure proper use, care, and readiness of tools and equipment
  • Communicate operational status, delays, incidents, and progress to supervisors and management
  • Support assessments, onboarding, and mentoring of new or reassigned personnel
