About The Position

The Illinois Gaming Board is seeking Gaming Special Agent Trainees to work in the Gaming Field Operations Division. The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) serves as the regulatory body for all gambling activities across the state of Illinois. Its mission is to preserve the integrity of the Illinois gaming industry. The agency administers a regulatory and tax collection system for casino gambling, video gaming, and sports wagering in Illinois. Requirements

  • Requires possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in criminal justice, law enforcement, pre-law, or business administration.
  • Requires successful completion of the firearms qualification course during the first 12 months of employment.
  • Requires successful completion of a basic law enforcement training program at an accredited police academy during the first 12 months of employment.
  • Pass Illinois Gaming Board’s background investigation (background check).
  • At the time of hire, possess sufficient physical fitness to pass/complete the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test.
  • At the time of hire, have a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card.
  • Requires ability to perform shift work, including weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime, including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license.
  • Must comply with the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act: No State employee who works for the Illinois Gaming Board, or spouse or immediate family member living with, such person shall, during State employment, hold an ownership interest in, other than a passive interest in, a publicly traded company, in any gaming license under the Illinois Gambling Act, the Video Gaming Act, the Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975, or the Sports Wagering Act.
  • Must comply with the Illinois Gambling Act: No person shall be employed to serve the Board who is, or whose spouse, parent or child is, an official of, or has a financial interest in or financial relation with, any operator engaged in gambling operations within this State, or any organization engaged in conducting horse racing within this State.
  • Must comply with the Illinois Gambling Act: For the one year immediately preceding employment, an employee shall not have been employed or received compensation or fees for services from a person or entity, or its parent or affiliate, that has engaged in business with the Board, a licensee, or a licensee under the Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

  • As a sworn armed peace officer, serves as a Gaming Special Agent Trainee, for a period of twelve (12) months, participates in mandatory accredited police academy training program and fitness trainings, including but not limited to: Firearms; Professional, Fitness.
  • Receives on-the-job training and instruction on the Illinois Gambling Act, Sports Wagering Act, State Fair Gaming Act, and any other statutes for which the Illinois Gaming Board has jurisdiction.
  • Processes casino and video gaming applications for licenses.
  • Reviews and monitors compliance with gaming regulations related to cash counts, chip inventories, payoff percentages of electronic gaming devices and filing of federal cash transaction reports.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
