About The Position

The Gallery Manager is responsible for the conceptual and operational leadership of Rocky Mountain College of Art and Designs’ campus galleries. Reporting to the Director of Creative Programming, the Gallery Manager curates, coordinates, and produces exhibitions and related programs that support the academic mission of the college and elevates its role as a site for artistic experimentation, learning, and public engagement. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of curatorial vision, logistical acumen, and collaborative spirit to realize innovative exhibitions and projects. This role includes oversight of gallery operations, student engagement, artist relations, and partnership development, with an emphasis on inclusive and educational programming that reflects the diversity of contemporary art and design practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Curatorial Studies, Arts Administration, Art History, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in gallery management, curatorial practice, or exhibition production.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary art and design practices.
  • Experience working with artists and coordinating exhibitions from concept to execution.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of programming.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a college, university, or nonprofit arts setting.
  • Familiarity with gallery lighting, AV needs, art handling, and installation techniques.
  • Supervisory experience, particularly with students or volunteers.
  • Graphic design or marketing experience related to exhibition promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an annual exhibition calendar in collaboration with the Director of Creative Programming.
  • Curate exhibitions that reflect the college’s values, disciplines, and commitment to critical inquiry and innovation.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate exhibitions into curriculum and student learning.
  • Support Visiting Artist engagements and related events, including talks, workshops, and publications.
  • Oversee campus permanent and loaned collection of artwork, including documentation, maintenance, and policy in collaboration with the Director of Creative Programming.
  • Oversee day-to-day gallery functions including scheduling, installation, deinstallation, and maintenance.
  • Supervise and train student gallery assistants and interns.
  • Coordinate with facilities, media services, and other campus departments to ensure smooth operation and presentation.
  • Manage gallery supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Serve as a point of contact for exhibiting artists and guest curators.
  • Manage, in partnership with the Director of Creative Programming, artist contracts, logistics, communications, and hospitality.
  • Develop community partnerships and collaborations that enhance the visibility and impact of the gallery’s programs.
  • Collaborate with the Division of Strategic Partnerships to explore, cultivate, and engage new and existing partners in support of gallery initiatives and expanded community impact.
  • Develop and manage gallery budgets in coordination with the Director of Creative Programming.
  • Manage approval process for displays of artwork for campus public spaces, and collaborate with academic affairs and facilities for relevant displays to enhance the campus interiors.
  • Ensure timely marketing, promotion, and documentation of exhibitions and events.
  • Maintain accurate records of past exhibitions, artist agreements, and student involvement.
  • Support grant writing or fundraising efforts tied to exhibitions or special initiatives.
