About The Position

All graduate assistants are required to enroll in a major ensemble appropriate to their applied area every semester you hold an assistantship. The ensemble placement will be determined by piano area faculty. Much of the graduate teaching assistant's primary duties are in support of instruction, including but not limited to the responsibilities below: 1. Serve as a primary or secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory. 2. Assist a faculty member with teaching-related tasks. 3. Grade student assignments which require knowledge of subjects taught in a class or laboratory. 4. Meet with and/or tutor students, hold office hours, prepare instructional materials, and assist during class and/or lab, etc. For this position, the specific Teaching Assistant duties may include but are not limited to: 1. Teaching Group Piano classes for majors/non-majors. 2. Weekly office hours in the Group Piano Lab. 3. Other assistance as needed in the keyboard area. 4. Other duties as assigned, depending on the candidate's interests and experience and School of Music needs.

Requirements

  • Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
  • Must be a degree-seeking graduate student in the School of Music at Illinois State University.
  • For teaching assistant positions, state law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
