About The Position

The Position: The furnace technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and cleaning furnaces used in both the permanent mold and sand mold departments. Duties may involve skills in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electronics, masonry, welding, and fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Operates flux injection machines to clean furnaces.
  • Performs hand fluxing, raking out, and skimming of furnaces-work involves exposure to hot and smoky conditions.
  • Uses jackhammers and chipping guns to tear out and repair furnaces.
  • Operate forklifts, man-lifts, welders, torches, and both powered and non-powered hand tools.
  • Fabricates metal components for furnace maintenance and repair.
  • Welds furnace covers and related tools.
  • Operates forklift to remove slag and load it onto trailers.
  • Prepares and fills furnaces as needed to ensure readiness for start-up.
  • Training and guiding others on furnace operations, demolition robots, and furnace testing equipment.
  • Under supervision, safely performs both routine and complex maintenance tasks to clean, repair, and sustain a variety of furnaces throughout the facility.
  • Must be able to interpret written and digital work orders, troubleshoot issues, and make recommendations for ongoing repair needs.
  • Manually lift and move product and materials up to 50 lbs. through regular physical exertion, including but not limited to reach forward, reach overhead, lift, carry, crouch, and bend
  • Power grip and wrist turn, including the use of hand tools and/or steering fork truck
  • Walk, sit, or stand for up to 12 hours with intermittent breaks
  • Push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • See, inspect, handle and evaluate product quality
  • Read and understand written English language work instructions
  • Work in non-climate controlled environments, including hot and humid conditions
  • Climb ladders and stairs of varying heights
