About The Position

The Fundraising Manager leads with empathy, clarity, and strong organizational skills to ensure a welcoming and values aligned experience for everyone who engages with Metro Caring through individual giving. As a manager on the Development & Communications team, this role sets the tone for how generosity is invited, received, and nurtured across annual donors, Greenhouse monthly sustainers, first-time supporters, and giving societies (Roots to Rise, Perennial Roots). Working in close partnership with the Director of Development, Development Coordinator, Communications team, and key cross-functional members, the Fundraising Manager designs seamless donor-facing systems that align people, processes, and technology. This leader ensures that donors are acknowledged promptly, communicated transparently, and engaged meaningfully. Through thoughtful stewardship, stable Salesforce systems, and donor-centric fundraising practices, the Fundraising Manager builds pathways that honor donor intent, foster trust, and create an inclusive, responsive, and relationship-driven culture of giving at Metro Caring.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, preferably in annual giving.
  • Strong Salesforce skills (reports, dashboards, workflows, data maintenance).
  • Persuasive writing and clear communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Experience managing staff, volunteers, or interns preferred.

  • Relationship-building: Genuine interest in people; ability to make donors feel listened to and valued.
  • Systems thinking: Ability to see how data, processes, and communications connect to produce results.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fundraising automation tools, email solutions, and segmentation strategies.
  • Public speaking skills, specifically representing organizations during site tours and at external events.
  • Knowledge of digital fundraising best practices (email, social media, paid ads).
  • Familiarity with volunteer engagement as a key stage in the donor continuum and pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Individual Giving Strategy & Execution (Donors ≤ $1,000)
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual giving plan for donors giving $1–$999, including Greenhouse monthly sustainers, renewing donors, lapsed donors, and acquiring new supporters.
  • Create and execute segmented fundraising campaigns across email, social media, mail, and peer-to-peer channels.
  • Use data to build donor journeys that foster acquisition, retention, and upgraded giving.
  • Collaborate with Communications team to ensure messaging is compelling, mission-centered, and aligned with program goals.
  • Track and analyze campaign progress, performance, and ROI; deliver post-campaign reports with recommended optimizations.
  • Working with the Development Coordinator, manage multichannel stewardship and cultivation touchpoints appropriate for this tier (e.g., welcome series, thank-you emails, invitations to volunteer, impact updates).
  • Salesforce Administration & Development Team CRM Lead
  • Serve as the Development team’s Salesforce subject-matter expert, supporting process improvements and maximizing system use for fundraising success.
  • Ensure high-quality data hygiene, consistent coding, and accurate donor records.
  • Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and automated workflows for tracking donor behavior, segmentation, retention, and campaign effectiveness.
  • Partner with the Data Coordinator and DEL team and/or external Salesforce consultants as needed to troubleshoot issues and implement enhancements.
  • Train Development staff on Salesforce use, best practices, and consistent data entry.
  • Regularly audit the database to ensure accuracy for revenue reporting and forecasting.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Provide coaching and development for the Development Coordinator through dynamic supervision and performance management, promoting outcome driven goals, professional growth, and cross department collaboration using Metro Caring’s accountability and data collection tools.
  • Ensure the Development Coordinator excels in data entry, data hygiene, acknowledgments, scheduling, stewardship activities, and donor communications.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability and support by establishing clear expectations, offering timely and reciprocal feedback, and implementing strategies for continuous quality improvement.
  • Lead regular team meetings and 1:1 check-ins to maintain strong staff connection and ensure alignment across programs.
  • Oversee the accuracy of data and reporting systems to monitor program progress, identify trends, and assess impact.
  • Guide and support teams through change management and ongoing quality improvement efforts informed by qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget, as well as organizational planning and goal‑setting.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development on departmentwide planning and cross functional initiatives.
  • Donor Stewardship, Cultivation, and Engagement
  • Serve as a frontline relationship manager for a portfolio of identified annual donors and Greenhouse monthly sustainers.
  • Initiate outreach to deepen donor connection and identify prospects who may grow into mid-level or major giving.
  • Support donor engagement events such as site tours, volunteer days, campaign kickoffs, peer to peer fundraising, and events.
  • Actively participate in and structure the activities of the Stewardship Committee.
  • Coordinate with Communications team and program staff to develop compelling impact stories and donor-facing content.
  • Operations & Additional Responsibilities
  • Contribute to revenue forecasting, pipeline development, and Development team dashboards.
  • Support the Director of Development with board reports, presentations, and special projects.
  • Manage vendor relationships (e.g., direct mail providers, digital tools, payment processors) as needed.
  • Stay informed of best practices in digital fundraising, CRM optimization, and donor engagement.
