About The Position

The MAT program at the Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for a full-time one-year faculty appointment beginning August 2026. The position is in a campus residential program, and is eligible for renewal for up to three years. Reporting to the Program Director for the MAT program, the faculty member holding this position will contribute 18 credits per year (nine per semester) of teaching and managerial responsibilities. Teaching may include undergraduate and/or graduate students in seminars, practica, and clinical supervision. Management roles may include student teaching internship placements, liaising with school districts, advising BFA/MAT students, collaborating on curriculum innovation, and writing grants. In addition, all full-time faculty are expected to maintain a professional practice and meaningfully contribute to program operations and assessment, committees, and professional engagements aligned with the position and the mission of the program and college.

Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Art Education or related field
  • At least three years of full-time experience teaching in K-12 schools
  • Record of professional excellence in teaching and mentoring students
  • Evidence of experience in one or more of the following: practicum placements, clinical supervision, liaising with school district offices, advising undergraduate/graduate students, curricular innovation, grant writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with state and regional assessment and accreditation protocols, including MSDE and MSCHE
  • Experience in clinical supervision
  • College-level teaching experience in Art Education beyond graduate assistantships (part-time or full-time)
  • Sustained contributions to the field of art education at regional or national levels
  • An active studio or scholarly practice
  • Familiarity with inclusive pedagogical and theoretical approaches to art education.
  • Ability to employ a range of pedagogical strategies to support diverse learners, including culturally responsive teaching
