About The Position

The Full Stack Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of meaningful, easy to use enterprise-grade applications for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicaid and CHIP (MAC) Suite legacy systems including BigMAC. MAC Suite legacy systems are used to submit and track state plan amendments, waivers and other types of Submissions related to Medicaid and CHIP, ensuring that the programs comply with federal guidelines and regulations. It allows state agencies to manage their submissions, approvals, and communications with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). BigMAC is an enterprise reporting and analytics platform which serves as CMCS’s centralized data and analytics environment. This role involves technical leadership, collaboration with teams of infrastructure engineers and application/product teams in enabling data exchanges between products/systems using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) technical landscape. The Full Stack Engineer will implement visually appealing and intuitive product interfaces using a modern tech stack. The ideal candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills and deep technical knowledge with a strong aptitude for appreciating the focus, scope, and impact of your work in a much wider and forward-looking software landscape.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent additional experience at a rate of twelve months required experience equivalent to nine months required education.
  • Minimum experience: Three years in a similar role.
  • Able to designing/architecting and implementing enterprise-scale application services in at least one of Java, Go, Python or similar
  • Hands on experience with one of the API development platforms such as API Gateway, Apigee, Kong, or similar
  • Hands on experience with AWS
  • Familiarity with API first methodology
  • Knowledge of Agile framework, Scrum methodologies and awareness of productivity tools used to support them

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CMS systems or other healthcare/Medicare & Medicaid platforms.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication required
  • Diverse experience across the full software development lifecycle preferred
  • Background in systems migration, integration, and cloud infrastructure optimization

Responsibilities

  • Translate requirements and user stories into API Endpoints interacting with cloud-based technologies such as Snowflake, and Databricks using the AWS platform
  • Develop automatic testing scripts to ensure product is of the highest quality
  • Build Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines utilizing AWS services with automated testing to deploy infrastructure to AWS using services such as CloudFormation and Jenkins
  • Diagnose and resolve defects as reported by users, testers, or deployment processes
  • Produce documentation or web portals to guide development teams on proper user of API
  • Understand usability testing and refactor front-end code to improve the user experience
  • Develop and maintain API specifications using tools such as Swagge
