About The Position

Education Through Music (ETM) is a nonprofit organization that partners with New York City public schools to provide high-quality music education to over 18,000 underserved students across all five boroughs. We build music programs that support underserved students’ social-emotional well-being and academic success, while also creating pathways for music educators to thrive in under-resourced public schools. ETM is seeking a highly detail-oriented and systems-driven Part-Time Full Charge Bookkeeper to support core financial management functions, with a focus on transactional finance. This role is ideal for an organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and can manage accounting workflows with accuracy, discretion, and strong follow-through. This is a part-time position with a hybrid work environment (ETM Office/remote).

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Sage Intacct
  • Microsoft Office
  • Google Suite
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable and bank disbursements, including coding, journal entry, and bank reconciliations; follow up with vendors as needed to resolve issues.
  • Manage accounts receivable, including processing encumbered purchase orders, creating invoices in Sage Intacct, preparing documentation of services provided, and maintaining a weekly cash receipts journal.
  • Review revenue and expense documentation for completeness and proper authorization before processing and recording in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the HR Manager to review timesheets and the payroll reconciliation spreadsheet for payroll and deduction errors before payroll is submitted for processing.
  • Monitor general ledger accounts to ensure proper accounting per GAAP rules and ETM policy.
  • Make journal entries and support month-end and quarter-end close processes.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules for program revenue, benefit withholdings, prepaid expenses, instrument rentals, and other key financial tracking needs.
