A Field Training Officer (FTO) is an experienced or senior member of our organization who is responsible for the training of a probationary level field employee as well as non-probationary level field employees. EMS requires extensive training beyond what is taught in a classroom setting. These men and women are our chosen tools to accomplish this task successfully. Employees hired into this position are subject to a six month introductory probationary period. The duties of the FTO are vast. They involve being a role model, teaching the field employee the policies of the company, teaching the employee how to correctly apply the concepts they learned in the classroom to field operations, and evaluating the employee on his or her progress in the program. New field employees will be expected to work with an FTO for a pre-determined amount of time, or until the FTO, in coordination with the administrative staff, determines that they are ready to work on their own. FTOs will be next in-line for promotional opportunities and will receive all the training opportunities as a shift supervisor. In the absence of the shift supervisor the FTO may be asked to fill in as the Shift Lieutenant.
