About The Position

This position involves responsibility for providing case management services to participants in our Family Self-Sufficiency Program to help them move toward self-sufficiency and achieve their program goals. The Caseworker will provide outreach services to prospective program participants. Essential duties include (but are not limited to):

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accessing needs, and interests of HCV residents.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local housing regulations as applied to the Family Self Sufficiency program.
  • Knowledge of accepted case management and interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of community agencies, and services which can be utilized to service residents.
  • Ability to plan and organize services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish professional and effective relationships with tenants and CVR colleagues.
  • Must possess initiative and resourcefulness, tact, courtesy, sensitivity to the needs of the tenants, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the firm.
  • Case Management and/or human services experience of 2+ years are highly recommended.
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social services, human services, education or a closely related field with similar course curriculum; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of full-time paid experience.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Communication (written/verbal), and active listening.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Bi-Lingual a plus (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management services to assist program participants in achieving interim steps to self-sufficiency.
  • Assists program participants in writing their service plans and setting program and family goals.
  • Assist program participants in accessing appropriate public or private community agencies to obtain specialized types of assistance.
  • Provides education in areas including stabilizing long-term employment, higher education, and financial literacy to reach economic independence.
  • Establishes effective relationships with the participating families to assist them in achieving program and family goals.
  • Identifies the need for services through in-depth discussions with participants.
  • Identifies impediments to progress.
  • Conducts orientation to prospective FSS families.
  • Prepares a variety of records and reports to meet deadlines.
  • All additional duties as assigned by supervisor and/or director.
