About The Position

The Fruitvale Community Market Manager (FCMM) engages with Northwest Harvest (NWH)’s goal of cutting hunger rates in half by 2028 by overseeing equitable day‑to‑day and long‑term operational planning that ensures dignified, reliable access to food and resources for the Yakima community. This role manages all aspects of market operations—including staff and volunteer leadership, food inventory and supply flow, shopper logistics, safety practices, and property management—to create a consistent, high‑quality experience for market shoppers. The FCMM ensures equitable service distribution by optimizing in‑store shopping, drive‑through services, and resource room usage, while maintaining clear, multilingual external communication across outreach channels. Additionally, they ensure that market operations center the experiences, needs, and voices of people facing food insecurity. At the heart of the role is people leadership grounded in emotional intelligence, cultural humility, and NWH’s PACI values and 6 Agreements. The FCMM builds and sustains a healthy, dynamic team culture by leading across differences, staying curious, fostering connectedness, encouraging learning, and championing clear, empathetic communication. The FCMM supports staff resilience and ensures staff, volunteers, and shoppers encounter dignity, respect, and compassionate service whenever they are on site. And through their leadership the FCMM strengthens both the Fruitvale Community Market and NWH’s broader mission to grow food justice through collective action. Schedule: This position will work into the early evenings on Mondays and Fridays and may be required to work other occasional off-shift hours as necessary for special events or other duties assigned. Travel: This position may be required to travel 1-5 days a month within the state of Washington.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit management, social work, food science, or an equal combination of education or work experience with a personal orientation as a lifelong learner.
  • Minimum three (3) + years’ experience working in customer service, public administration, human services, or similar work in a non-profit setting, with two (2) + years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build healthy, dynamic teams that work well together and that understand their role and impact within and beyond the organization
  • Through emotionally intelligent and empathetic leadership-supervise, support, professionally develop, and hold accountable the following positions: FCM Coordinator FCM Assistants (3) FCM Shopper Engagement and Resource Advocate
  • Lead through influence across the department and through the organization
  • Oversees andis responsible forprogram budgets thatare alignedwith organizational strategies and annual operating plans
  • Ensure milestones, indicators and targets are developed and tracked for programs in support of NWH strategies
  • Champion clear and consistent communication internally and externally about activities, initiatives, successes, and learnings
  • Encourage leaning intocontinuous improvementand learning
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day operations of the Market including but not limited to staff and volunteer activities, food inventory and supplies management, and shopper circulation logistics in the heat of summer and cold of winter.
  • Manage program implementation and innovation of market experiences including in-store shopping, drive-through services, and resource room usage by facilitating an environment that celebrates food, creativity, nutrition, dignified customer service, holistic care, and fun
  • Prioritize the experiences of community members by facilitating a variety of feedback methods such as periodic shopper surveys, Advisory Council meetings, and consistent conversation and engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain clear external communication on market information across a variety of platforms such as outreach flyers, NWH website,2-1-1 updates, social media, and search engines
  • Responsible as the site manager and main point of contact for the FCM site/property
  • Communicates and collaborates regularly with NWH Facilities &Safetydepartment
  • Oversees implementation of organization-wide safety measuresincluding but not limitedtothe Market site, parking areas, equipment, equipment safety training, building utilities, building access, asset maintenance, security contractors, safetyplansand inclement weather plans
  • Documents, reviews, and responds to all incidents, injuries, and safety concerns
  • Ensures food safety at all timesand upholds current food handling practices and regulation
  • Collaborate with other community market managers and teams to build on best practices
  • Coordinateongoing and time-limitedactivitieswith NWH teamsincluding but not limitedto:supply chain,volunteer programs,allocations,philanthropy,communications, marketing, food drives, and events
  • Oversee and collaborateon FCMpresence in Teams, SharePoint, Salesforce, website, social media, and other mediaoutlets
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Community Markets
