NominalLos Angeles, CA

About The Position

Nominal builds modern testing software for mission-critical hardware teams—helping companies developing satellites, autonomous aircraft, robotics, and next-generation energy systems test faster, safer, and in real time. Our platform replaces outdated tooling with a real-time, collaborative, and visually intuitive experience. Join Nominal as a Frontend Engineer who loves the craft of the web: someone who still gets a kick out of laying out a page, nudging pixels, writing elegant CSS, and shipping experiences that feel surprisingly “alive.” This is for someone who wants to design and build unique, playful, deeply considered web experiences, side‑by‑side with founders and a small senior team. As we grow, our website plays a critical role in how we tell our story, communicate our product value, and engage new customers. We’re looking for someone to own and evolve Nominal’s marketing website, working closely with design and marketing to deliver best-in-class web experiences. You’ll be based in Austin, working closely with our marketing and design leads.

Requirements

  • You know CSS deeply (layout, responsive design, animation, modern best practices). You have opinions on BEM, CSS Modules, Tailwind, and CSS-in-JS.
  • You love figuring out how to build challenging and interesting ideas with JavaScript.
  • You have a strong feel for visual design: hierarchy, spacing, grids, typography, color, motion. You notice when something feels off by 2px. You care about performance, accessibility, and generally making things feel right.
  • You probably have a folder of screenshots / bookmarks of sites you love.
  • You’re comfortable taking a rough idea or Figma sketch and turning it into a polished, production-ready experience. You enjoy being both the designer and the front-end engineer.
  • You’re proud of your personal site or portfolio and how it’s built.
  • You like in-person collaboration. You want to sit with the people you work with, bounce ideas in real time, and iterate quickly.

  • Familiarity with modern animation or interaction techniques.
  • Framer Motion, Anime.js, Lottie, etc.
  • Experience and strong opinions on design systems

  • Experience with:
  • Headless CMS and working with APIs
  • Server rendering, static generation, and classic HTML
  • SEO best practices
  • Optimizing Core Web Vitals
  • Accessibility standards

Responsibilities

  • Own the development of Nominal’s marketing website end-to-end. You’ll take our existing site and make it sing
  • Craft immersive, scroll-driven stories with live workflows, interactive demos, and rich visuals that make people feel the product. You’ll help define how we talk about and present Nominal to the world.
  • Design & build bespoke launch experiences: Create dedicated pages for big product launches (e.g., our upcoming “Procedures” launch).
  • Experiment with new patterns, narrative structures, and ways of explaining complex ideas visually.
  • Collaborate in-person with a small team
  • Translate design concepts into production-quality, delightful, web-based experiences
  • Build and iterate on content-driven, high-performance web pages
  • Tune layout, typography, motion, and micro-interactions so the site feels deliberate and premium.
