Frontend Engineer - Junior
About The Position
Nationwide IT Services, NIS, is seeking a Junior Frontend Engineer for a potential opportunity. In this position, the Engineer will: Build responsive, component-based UIs using React (or Angular/Vue) that interact with complex backend APIs. Prototype mockups or wireframes for stakeholder presentations and reviews. Create a comprehensive and unified library of UI components that can be utilized for all future development and can be modified for specific use cases. Perform functional and integration testing of UI components and workflows using modern testing tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, Mocha/Chai, etc. Building interfaces that are responsive to all screen sizes and aligned with Government 508 Compliance requirements. Ensure UI works with screen readers (JAWS/NVDA), keyboard navigation, and color contrast before QA.
Requirements
- Active Secret is preferred
- Hybrid-within commutable to Northern VA/DCA
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
- 2+ years of designing and developing user interfaces using React or React Native.
- Familiarity with modern design tools such as Figma.
Responsibilities

- Perform functional and integration testing of UI components and workflows using modern testing tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, Mocha/Chai, etc.
- Building interfaces that are responsive to all screen sizes and aligned with Government 508 Compliance requirements.
- Ensure UI works with screen readers (JAWS/NVDA), keyboard navigation, and color contrast before QA.
- Assist in the Discovery Phase activities of gathering user requirements, business analysis, legacy system analysis, Epic/Story creation, external data integration planning, and product backlog management.
