About The Position

Greets, instructs, directs, and schedules patients and visitors. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff. Provides staff support to the Physician in operating the practice computer system and phone / fax system. Requirements

  • High School graduation or GED.
  • One year secretarial and medical billing experience.
  • Typing ability of 40 wpm. Work processing experience.
  • Must be familiar with CPT and ICD- 10CM codes, either through education or experience as demonstrated by past performance.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and the insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.
  • Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
  • Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
  • Knowledge of Medicare.
  • Knowledge of governmental legal and regulatory provisos related to collection activities.
  • Skill with computer applications and use of calculator.
  • Ability to deal courteously with patients, co-workers, and others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Check in patients, verify insurance coverage and update demographics in computer system.
  • Scan all patient related information into the computer system.
  • Schedule appointments for the Physician.
  • Manage phone and answering machine services
  • Assist in scheduling follow-up appointments as patient checks-out.
  • Courteously answer telephone and direct calls to appropriate party or take accurate message.
  • Collect monies from patients when applicable.
  • Greet visitors and direct appropriately.
  • Communicate with co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Prepare copies of any and all office handouts.
  • Keep incoming faxes directed to appropriate recipients.
  • Maintain confidentiality, in all aspects of the position, to include HIPAA and other areas as outlined in the employee handbook.
