About The Position

The Front Desk Receptionist serves as the welcoming first point of contact for visitors, students, and university employees, creating a professional and supportive front-office experience at San Diego State University, Imperial Valley . This position plays a key role in providing general campus and Student Health Services information, managing appointments, and ensuring calls and inquiries are handled efficiently and accurately. In addition to reception responsibilities, the role performs essential clerical tasks and supervises student workers supporting front desk operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an organized, service-oriented professional who thrives in a high-traffic environment and enjoys helping others navigate campus services.

Requirements

  • Fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • An ability to understand standard office procedures
  • An ability to operate standard office equipment
  • An ability to learn office technology systems
  • An ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Typing and keyboard skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish is required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in Public Administration or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Two years of experience as a Receptionist, Administrative Assistant or Clerical is preferred.
  • Experience in working in higher education or public sector settings is preferred.
  • Experience with utilizing computer and phone systems.
  • Experience with Google email, Google Calendars, Zoom, Excel Spreadsheets, Word and PowerPoint Presentations.
  • Experience in handling high volume of traffic at the same time (in-person, phone call and emails).
  • Professional attitude and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist visitors, students, and university employees, directing them to appropriate offices or personnel with professionalism and discretion.
  • Answer, screen, and route incoming calls; take messages; and manage appointment scheduling and calendars.
  • Provide accurate information about campus and Student Health Services policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Perform clerical duties such as data entry, filing, and operating standard office equipment.
  • Schedule and supervise student assistants supporting front desk operations.
