About The Position

Join our dedicated team at Mercy Housing & Shelter as the Friendship Center Supervisor- lead in a vital role that directly impacts client services. This role ensures our day-to-day Shelter and soup kitchen operate with compassion, safety and purpose. Help create a safe space where individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity feel seen, supported and respected. As the Supervisor, you’ll navigate the daily operations of the Friendship Center, supporting both guests and your team while keeping the day shelter running smoothly. You’ll manage with confidence not only team members but also coordinate with volunteers and collaborate with outreach and service providers to meet guest’s immediate and long-term needs. Accurate and consistent daily data reporting is a core responsibility of this role that our organization heavily relies on. Strong attention to detail is essential, as data collection and entry directly impact and support client services, guide program decisions and ensure outcome tracking is based on reliable, high-quality information. Community Housing Advocates (CHA) a parent company of Mercy Housing & Shelter and My Sister’s Place, two agencies who in 2018 united forces based on a common mission- combating homelessness and providing support to individuals and families in need. Requirements

  • Valid CT driver’s license & clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up-to 30 lbs. and perform light housekeeping
  • Willingness to work onsite during all scheduled shifts, including inclement weather
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field is preferred, will consider a combination of education & experience
  • Bring 2+ years of experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Have supervisory experience and enjoy leading by example

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day shelter activities, soup kitchen, food distribution, and safety protocols in collaboration with the Chef.
  • Supervise monitors, and community service workers
  • Work in partnership with volunteers and the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Welcome and orient new guests with care and professionalism
  • Respond to crises calmly and effectively
  • Maintain accurate records, coordinate with other service teams, and uphold policies
  • Do daily data collecting and entry in our HMIS for compliance and real time tracking purposes.
  • Work directly with the Director of Client Services to ensure high-quality support
