About The Position

At the DEP's Watershed and Land Management Program (WLM), our mission is to unite land and water stewardship through a collaborative, watershed-focused approach. Since our inception on June 1, 2020, we have been dedicated to preserving and enhancing New Jersey's water quality and natural resources while safeguarding communities from environmental threats. Project Description: The intern supports the Bureau of Freshwater Wetlands and Highlands Permitting by assisting with the timely and accurate review of permit and letter of interpretation applications that protect regulated freshwater wetlands and highlands resources. Through application review, site inspections, and wetland delineations, the intern will help ensure regulatory decisions are based on sound field observations and technical analysis, advancing the Department’s mission to safeguard sensitive natural resources while supporting responsible development. Specific to the Position: Detailed oriented, ability to multitask, strong customer service, and Microsoft Office skills, especially Word and Excel, the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
