About The Position

Iteris is looking for a Freeways Operator to be responsible for the principal monitoring of the freeway management systems (FMS) and must possess strong familiarity with the District’s freeway system. The Operators are the highest profile positions in the RTMC, as they are the “eyes and ears” of detection and management of all activities being handled by the RTMC. What you will be doing: Monitor the status of freeways using CCTV cameras, Road Ranger Service Patrols, detector data, etc. to include detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic and incident management events, congestion, and travel time imbalances in the geographical coverage area Enter all scheduled and unscheduled events and congestion into SunGuide software and disseminate information using ITS devices, websites, and Florida 511 (FL511) system Coordinate with other Control Room staff, law enforcement, and external agencies in response to incidents Dispatch RRSPs to motorists, events, and to assist law enforcement in a timely and efficient manner, and log all activities into SunGuide and ensure the quality of information is complete and concise Manage WWD events Perform daily ITS infrastructure checks (CCTV cameras, DMSs, MVDSs, Video Wall, etc.) during the morning shift, and detect, confirm, and report equipment faults at other times affecting Control Room equipment, RTMC system field equipment, and application issues and open device failure tickets for malfunctions during these checks (performance) Coordinate with maintenance staff as needed Inform Emergency Services of traffic incidents within the RTMC coverage area. These events vary in scope and methods on how the operator responds notifying FHP, RRSP, local first responders, etc. Provide information to FDOT and Iteris TIM Coordinators about locations of recurring and high-profile events to aid in identifying and correcting roadway issues Perform daily Lane Closure Notification System (also known as one.network) checks for work zones within operator assignment areas Follow FDOT District 7 policies and procedures, including the District 7 RTMC SOP Follow time requirements in the District 7 RTMC SOP for event confirmation, RRSP dispatching, DMS message posting, FL511 system update, etc.

Requirements

  • Skills in interpersonal relationships and ability to work well within a group
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information in layman’s terms
  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and be on-call 24 hours/day
  • Ability to gain acceptable skill in the use of SunGuide software and Windows-based applications within the allotted time
  • Ability to write reports clearly and concisely
  • Ability to coordinate real-time activities and priorities
  • Knowledge of communications and sending information via multiple communication devices

Responsibilities
