About The Position

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service. Overview We are looking for a motivated intern to work with our FPGA Verification team. You will work with the team to verify FPGA design functionality in preparation for the FAA Certification process for Airborne Electronic Hardware. It will be an in-person internship based in Santa Cruz, CA. The ideal candidate is energetic, has a positive attitude, is flexible and excited about learning. Expect an internship that is similar to a job you would have when you graduate. The range of experiences will be wide, and you will not be bored. The level of responsibilities will depend on your independence and your ability to complete tasks on the specific team you will be joining.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, UX Design, or related field, graduating between December 2026 and August 2027.
  • Ability to identify challenging problems and potential solutions with guidance from a mentor, and work toward them with a high degree of independence.
  • Familiarity with digital logic verification techniques, including UVM test benches, SystemVerilog, coding, debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience/Comfort with application and/or object-oriented technologies such as SystemVerilog, Python, Docker, shell scripting, git, Jira
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn!

Nice To Haves

  • Strong examples of previous engineering and design experience from past internships and/or extracurricular projects.
  • Experience working on cross-disciplinary projects involving software development for a hardware system.
  • Ability to learn quickly and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  • Passionate about aviation and/or robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing and maintaining UVM test benches
  • Creating and reviewing test plan documents
  • Contributing to requirements specifications
  • Participating in module and system-level design reviews
  • Using modern AI tools to automate or accelerate any of the above
