About The Position

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interim Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Finance to support the finance function during a critical interim period. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in full-cycle accounting, financial leadership, and strategic financial management. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial stability, ensuring compliance, and providing data-driven insights to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including senior leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in full-cycle accounting and financial management.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and translate it into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team development, and change-management capabilities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing grants, restricted funds, or external funding compliance is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full-cycle accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, budget reports, forecasts, and executive-level financial analysis for senior leadership and governing bodies.
  • Lead the annual budget process, including development, implementation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and decision support to department leaders and operational teams.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while promoting continuous improvement and best practices.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and manage all aspects of the annual audit process to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Design, implement, and refine financial policies, controls, and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives through financial modeling, scenario analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Monitor cash flow, investments, and debt obligations to maintain organizational financial health.
  • Identify financial risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee grant and restricted-fund management, ensuring accurate allocation, compliance, and reporting.
  • Partner closely with Human Resources and other administrative departments to optimize payroll, benefits, and financial operations.
  • Support ERP systems usage, optimization, and implementation initiatives as needed.
