A producer is a key player at KQED making sure our journalism is available and accessible across multiple platforms. A producer’s key responsibilities include working with editors, reporters, hosts and other producers to ensure our audio and digital work is accessible in a timely and accurate manner. Producers at KQED can also research, write and help build news segments or shows, including our newscasts, segmented audio, Perspectives, Forum, The California Report and other shows as needed. The producer can also be assigned to work on newsroom special projects including podcasts. Producers are expected to edit audio, produce mixes, shape pitches, frame stories or segments, coordinate tapings at remote locations, and write for audio. KQED producers are expected to be ambitious and dedicated journalists, capable of juggling multiple tasks at once and meeting mission-critical deadlines – all in a respectful, collaborative manner. Forum Producer A Forum Producer is a critical member of the team responsible for creating KQED’s daily public affairs conversation and audience engagement driven show. They work closely with other producers, hosts and editorial management to identify story ideas and produce interview segments. We provide two hours of news and public affairs on our Forum show. The Producer is a key and critical decision maker on the show and responsible for planning and developing the program’s topics, sources and issue research. The Producer also participates in the production of special radio and online series and projects and coordinates work with other news and public affairs units, including KQED News, The California Report, and Newsroom. The Forum Producer promotes citizen engagement in the program through targeted use of social media channels. Some Forum producers are expected to take lead, coordinating roles on each individual hour of Forum, including editing scripts, managing calendars, and working more closely with hosts. They are responsible for maintaining the show’s schedule, source tracking, Airtable and database. KQED envisions a public media organization with a culture that centers on human dignity, equity, and belonging. This will enable us to better serve and reflect the Bay Area through diverse and inclusive storytelling. We value the contributions of marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous, and all people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people — and we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, and we strongly encourage members of these communities to apply. KQED Code of Ethics https://www.kqed.org/about/code-ethics The mission that drives us: KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas. This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. The successful candidate will be required to join The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA DP).
