To transfer products using an industrial forklift, hand lift or pallet jack in a manner which complies with safety procedures, company and USDA requirements. This position involves storing and moving product using an industrial forklift, hand lift or pallet jack, operating an electronic or hand operated pallet jack between departments, buildings, and grounds, and collecting and delivering a wide variety of materials while adhering to established safety procedures. The operator will deliver materials to work areas as directed from production supervisor, stack materials in storage areas and load/unload shipments in trailers, ensuring product or equipment being moved is undamaged and handled in a safe manner. Routine servicing of equipment such as changing and charging batteries, and checking tires is also required. The operator is responsible for identifying any mechanical problems or damage with the pallet jack and ensuring problems are reported to the supervisor for inspection and repair. They will detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor, maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition, and follow prescribed safety regulations. The role also includes performing visual safety inspection of machines before operation, loading and unloading trucks, stacking and consolidating partial pallets, assisting with inventory by correctly recording numbers and codes, and keeping the dock area clear and organized for efficient workflow. Daily and weekly reports must be completed and delivered to the floor supervisor. The individual will participate as a member of the Team, engaging in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies, and coordinating work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. They will attend appropriate team meetings, foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues, accept responsibility to identify and resolve areas lacking cohesiveness, and actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization. Familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understanding the responsibility to maintain familiarity with these systems and the position’s role in supporting them, including considering the impact of individual actions and communicating concerns and improvement ideas, is also expected. Other duties as necessary in support of business objectives may be required.
