About The Position

Boise National Forest is recruiting five 480 HR Forestry Technician (Developed Recreation/YCC Crew Lead/Trails) Individual Placements beginning May through September 2026 (dates can be flexible depending on selectee's schedule). Incumbent will maintain recreation facilities and brushing, logging, and construction trail tread system trails on the NZ of the Boise NF. Individual Placements may lead as a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew Lead for 8 weeks. This placement will typically work either four 10-hour days per week Mondays through Thursday or five 8-hour days per week Monday through Friday if serving as a YCC Crew Lead. Duties will include serving with FS employees constructing, cleaning, maintaining recreation facilities, taking water samples, and collecting fees. This requires hiking/ working outdoors with a partner and/ or independently. The placement time will be split with 50% of the job consisting of rental cabin maintenance and 50% campground maintenance.

Requirements

U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
Must pass a background/driver check
Driver's license
High school diploma/ GED
Willingness to work as part of a small team
Good written and verbal communication skills
Being a positive role model for 15-18 year old youth
A positive attitude
Current driver's license
Ability to lift and carry 50lbs
Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground
Ability to hike 5-10 miles in a day in rugged country
Willingness to clean campground facilities
