About The Position

Reporting to the Forestry Supervisor, a seasonal Forestry Maintenance Worker is responsible for a diverse range of tasks, including assisting with tree maintenance (trimming, removal, etc.), chipping branches / brush, stump debris cleanup, planting / watering trees, operating city equipment and hand tools, etc. The work is conducted outdoors and in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor with weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather and other adverse conditions.
  • Ability to work with and provide exceptional customer service to the public.
  • Ability to follow instructions, and be able to work independently and as a member of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in forestry, grounds maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Tree Maintenance: Assist in the removal, trimming, and pruning of trees. This can include dragging brush, operating a wood chipper, assisting with the rigging / lowering of branches / limbs, etc. Work will be completed while following all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Stump / debris cleanup: Removal of stump grindings using loaders, trucks, hand tools, etc..
  • Planting / waterting trees: Installation of new trees as well as care of newly installed trees can includes watering, fertilizing, mulching, and staking.
  • Operating light to moderate equipment: Operating and transporting city equipment to and from job sites will be required.
