Forestry Crew Supervisor, Tahoe Donner Association Are you ready to lead a dedicated team in protecting and enhancing one of the most beautiful mountain communities in the Sierra. As the Tahoe Donner Association Forestry Crew Supervisor you will be the primary leader responsible for the health, safety, and motivation of the Forestry Crew. This is more than a job; it is a mission to maintain over 7000 acres of land, mitigate wildfire risk to 6500 homes and restore a vital ecosystem for future generations. This position is a key leadership role within the Tahoe Donner Land Management Department which encompasses a robust Forestry, Defensible Space, Stewardship, and Trails programs. As the Crew Supervisor, you will report directly to the Forestry Program Manager and will frequently integrate with other programs as needed, ensuring a holistic approach to management of association lands Leadership Impact – In this position you will: Build the Future Team: In collaboration with our HR department you will take the lead in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring a dynamic field crew of 5 to 20 members. You will be responsible for their orientation, motivation, and professional development. Lead Safety and Training: You will serve as the lead instructor, training your crew in the safe and efficient use of chainsaws, chippers, and specialized forestry tools. You ensure that crew members return safely at the end of the day and the department maintains it’s current high safety standards and record Drive Operational Excellence: Direct diverse and complicated forestry methods, including tree felling and removal, planting, fuel reduction, and stream or habitat enhancement. You will develop work plans, prepare timelines, and monitor productivity to ensure projects are completed with quality and efficiently. Advanced Equipment Operation: While overseeing manual labor, you will also supervise the disposal of forest slash and biomass and the use of machinery. Experience operating heavy equipment, such as excavators and dozers, is highly sought after and will allow you to take our fuel reduction projects to the next level. Technology and Innovation: Utilize modern technology, including GPS mapping and field data recording to guide and document your team's success. For a full job description please click HERE!!QualificationsWho You Are • An Experienced Leader: You have a background in forestry, wildland fire fighting, fuel mitigation work or logging crews and significant prior supervisory experience. Professional and strong interpersonal communication skills are a prerequisite for this position. • A Technical Expert: You typically possess an Associate or Bachelors degree in natural resource management (or extensive equivalent work experience) and are skilled in identifying regional trees, as well as complex arborist and falling practices like rigging, climbing, pruning, and directional felling. • A Problem-Solver: You are in excellent physical condition and possess the mental focus to make critical decisions in a fast-paced, outdoor environment. • Community-Minded: You provide excellent customer service to Tahoe Donner members and guests, acting as a steward for the Association’s natural resources.
