We are seeking a talented Forensic Intervention Team Specialist to join our team of nearly 500 employees. The Monroe County Office of Mental Health (MCOMH) maintains strong partnerships with the eleven county law enforcement agencies that serve Monroe County. In 2017, MCOMH launched the Forensic Intervention Team (FIT), a co-response model that pairs licensed clinicians with law enforcement to address behavioral health needs in the community. This position is a vacancy to maintain 24/7 program coverage and ensure continuity of service across Monroe County. FIT clinicians respond alongside law enforcement to behavioral health crises and complex non-crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation strategies, conducting risk and needs assessments, and facilitating linkage to ongoing treatment and community-based supports. CCSI is partnering with Monroe County Office of Mental Health to hire a Forensic Intervention Specialist. This position is employed by CCSI and works on behalf of Monroe County Office of Mental Health.

Requirements

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Psychoanalyst, or doctorate in psychology, as documented by valid licensure from NYS ED Office of Professions, or…
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health/Human Services related field plus minimum 5 years’ experience in mental health crisis intervention or mental health crisis response setting, or…
  • Ability to assess Clients and take appropriate action through the lens of utilizing a least restrictive necessary intervention.
  • Ability to assess Clients for immediate and long terms needs within a fast paced, crisis-oriented environment
  • Be skilled in de-escalation strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to work with clients and systems both positively and productively
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships, working through issues proactively with the lens of conflict resolution

Responsibilities

  • Respond to crisis and non-crisis calls with law enforcement upon dispatch from 911.
  • When multiple calls occur simultaneously, triage calls to determine appropriate level of intervention, balancing needs among various law enforcement departments.
  • Balance immediate needs with long-term goal to connect to ongoing supports, understanding that needs and timeline for transition vary among cases.
  • Complete immediate follow up for Crisis Calls and Collaborate with Complex Case Management around cases that require sustained intervention
  • Complete accurate, thorough, and contemporaneous documentation of all client interactions, assessments, and interventions in alignment with clinical and FIT standards, recognizing that timely and complete record-keeping is essential for continuity of care, risk assessment, interagency coordination, and program accountability.
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Develop strong relationships with Monroe County’s law enforcement agencies.
  • Build effective linkages and relationships with informal and community supports (child, adult, and family serving systems), as well as other formal supports.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with forensic entities (including courts and Monroe County Jail), as well as provider agencies.
  • Support interdepartmental initiatives and planning functions within Monroe County Office of Mental Health.
  • Provide program coverage, including on-call, as necessary.
  • Support other Monroe County Office of Mental Health program needs as they arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
