The Peoria Police Department is currently seeking a Forensic Specialist to join our dedicated and growing Forensic Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is expanding and evolving. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in Forensic Science or related field.
  • 1-2 years experience in same or similar previous positions.
  • Work requires moderate physical exertion. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 10 and 25 pounds.
  • Valid Arizona Class “D” Driver’s License required upon hire.
  • Arizona Criminal Justice Information System Terminal Operator Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Automated Fingerprint Information System 10 Print Certification & Automated Fingerprint Information System Latent Print Certification within one year of hire.
  • NIBIN entry and correlation certification within 18 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree (or higher) in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Photography, or a related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work in physically demanding, messy, and sometimes unpleasant environments (e.g., outdoor crime scenes, biological hazards, odors, extreme temperatures)
  • Willingness to be part of an on-call rotation for 24/7 coverage

Responsibilities

  • Operate within multiple forensic disciplines such as: Crime scene investigation
  • Lab processing of items of evidence
  • Latent print analysis
  • NIBIN test fire entry and analysis
  • Collaborate closely with detectives, officers, and other units within the department
  • Maintain accurate reports, logs, and chain of custody documentation
  • Participate in continuing education and cross-training within the unit
  • Support community-focused forensic services in a team-based environment
