About The Position

We’re seeking a Forensic Intern to join our Forensics team. In this role, you will support investigations into building enclosure and structural performance issues, construction failures, water intrusion, material deficiencies, and other forensic conditions affecting buildings. Working under the guidance of engineers, architects, and project leaders, you’ll assist with field assessments, documentation, technical analysis, and report development. This internship is ideal for an emerging engineer or architect interested in building pathology, diagnostics, and hands‑on problem‑solving in a fast‑paced consulting environment.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in or recent completion of a Bachelor’s program in Civil, Structural, Architectural Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Foundational knowledge of building systems building construction, materials, and structural building enclosure systems.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or comparable drafting software.
  • Strong communication, technical writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Interest in building forensics, failure analysis, and building investigations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or project experience related to building forensics, structural analysis, building envelope consulting, or building restoration.
  • Familiarity with condition assessments, or construction site observation.
  • Exposure to Bluebeam, Revit, or engineering analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project leaders across various forensic project types and phases under direct supervision.
  • Support engineering / architecture tasks using prescribed methods while developing working knowledge of common building materials, construction assemblies, and failure mechanisms.
  • Conduct research and contribute to problem‑solving efforts related to building performance issues.
  • Participate actively in a team‑oriented, collaborative work environment.
  • Prepare project documents with guidance, including field reports, meeting minutes, project specifications, hand sketches, and technical letters.
  • Maintain organized project files, notes, and photographs.
  • Write clear, well‑structured technical reports that communicate findings effectively.
  • Participate in building site inspections across a variety of environments, including roofs, façades, mechanical spaces, basements, and limited‑clearance areas.
  • Document site observations and communicate findings to project leaders to assist with troubleshooting and assessment.
  • With guidance, observe contractor work for adherence to project specifications and identify potential discrepancies.
