About The Position

The basic function of this position is to work closely with, and direct, other team members to complete assigned tasks on time, under budget, and within tolerance in a manner that aligns with Procon, Inc’s values and goals. This position will be a manual labor position and the ability to follow directions is needful. This position will require common sense, logical thought processes, and the ability to work in a safety conscious manner. This position requires the employee to provide their own personal hand tools and to wear all required PPE. All employees are expected to adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Procon Employee Handbook and Corporate Safety Manual and behave in a manner that aligns with Procon’s Values.

Requirements

  • OSHA 30 certification is required
  • 3 years of senior carpentry experience is required
  • The ability to speak, read and understand English as well as the ability to speak and understand Spanish is required
  • The ability to read and understand basic plans/drawings is required
  • Low level computer/technology skills are required
  • Moderate leadership skills are required

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to write in English and read and write in Spanish is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with superintendent on job site to perform each job task safely, efficiently, on time, and under budget
  • Review and check plans and specs for inaccuracies and needed corrections
  • Recognize and correct unsafe conditions and items throughout the work site
  • Organize tools and materials needed for the current days work as well as plan ahead for coming tasks. Load and unload trucks as required
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools. Must have knowledge of how to inspect tools for safe condition and how to safely and correctly operate such tools
  • Perform, and direct others in the safe completion of, simple excavating operations using shovels picks, mattocks, etc., including fine grading ditches, slab sub grade, etc.
  • Signal or communicate with equipment operators during operations to help efficiently and safely complete the task at hand
  • Recognize and train others to use proper hand signals
  • Direct and perform the proper installation of rebar according to the plans and specifications
  • Direct and perform the proper installation of the necessary forms required, depending on the phase of the job. Must be able to dismantle same forms using hammers, drills, saws, etc. Forms must be installed plumb, accurate, and square
  • Assist in the placement, grading, floating, and finishing of concrete in various applications and finishes. Recognize and understand proper slump of concrete
  • Build scaffolding, walkways, handrails, and other safety related items under the direction of the competent person
  • Maintain clean and organized jobsite to prevent and eliminate potential job site hazards
  • Recognize and understand safe work practices such as proper lifting, fall protection requirements, PPE requirements, fire protection, etc.
  • Operate equipment such as skid steers, excavators, backhoes, forklifts, power finishing trowels, and motor vehicles
  • Ensure that daily pre-trip and pre-startup inspections are conducted and documented for any vehicle or equipment to be operated. Report any faulty or non functioning items immediately
  • Have knowledge in the safe and correct way to operate required equipment and vehicles. Do not operate any equipment or vehicles unless properly licensed and trained
  • Ensure that any other crew members who operate equipment are trained and qualified before permitting them to operate the equipment
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and safety procedures, such as seatbelt usage, etc.
  • Ensure that any company vehicle assigned to your crew is cleaned, neat, and organized, both inside and outside, by the start of work each Monday morning
  • Coordinate with superintendent closely and instruct all crew members in the tasks to be performed, daily goals to be met, as well as the method of performance and the budgeted time to perform each task
  • Assist superintendent with electronic time reporting to ensure accuracy and correct entry
  • Report all near misses, incidents, or accidents to the job site supervisor
  • Assist in, and ensure, that the daily pre task plan is done before beginning work. Assist in, or conduct, the completion and documentation of the weekly toolbox talks
  • Assist in the documentation of any employee issues and problems, including disciplinary action from conduct or unsafe actions, and documentation of good behaviors
  • Evaluate the performance of the members of your crew and communicate this information to the site superintendent
  • Communicate daily work schedules to all crew members in a timely manner to ensure efficiency and production
  • Be available for contact on company issued phones in order to stay up to date with any changes or instructions from superintendent or manager, including after hours
  • Continuously convey a positive example and team building attitude to all crew members. Promote harmony with all team members and diffuse conflict to maintain a positive work environment
  • All other duties required by the President or your Supervisor
  • Follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook and Corporate Safety Program
