About The Position

SKILLFORCE IS CURRENTLY SEARCHING FOR OUR NEXT GREAT EMPLOYEE FOR A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY IN THE MANSFIELD AREA.  WE ARE SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED HEAVY CIVIL FOREMAN TO LEAD FIELD OPERATIONS ON MUNICIPAL AND PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS. THIS ROLE IS HANDS-ON AND LEADERSHIP-DRIVEN, RESPONSIBLE FOR SAFELY AND EFFICIENTLY DELIVERING QUALITY WORK WHILE COORDINATING CREWS, EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, AND INSPECTIONS IN THE FIELD.  THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS A STRONG BACKGROUND IN HEAVY CIVIL OR MUNICIPAL CONSTRUCTION AND CAN INDEPENDENTLY RUN DAY-TO-DAY JOBSITE OPERATIONS. YOU WILL LEAD OPERATORS, LABORERS, AND SUBCONTRACTORS WHILE MAINTAINING PRODUCTIVITY, SAFETY, AND QUALITY STANDARDS.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years in heavy civil or municipal construction.
  • 2–4+ years as a lead foreman, superintendent, or equivalent role.
  • 30 Hour OSHA certification.
  • Proven experience on water and wastewater treatment plants, underground utilities including storm, sanitary, and water, concrete work such as equipment pads, duct banks, and structures, and sitework including excavation, grading, backfill, and restoration.
  • Experience working under inspectors and engineers on public projects.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and addenda.
  • Understanding of trench safety and shoring, utility installation tolerances and slopes, concrete placement, curing, and reinforcement, dewatering and bypass pumping sequencing, and directional drilling versus open-cut means and methods.
  • Ability to identify utility conflicts and coordinate potholing.
  • Proven ability to lead crews, not just work alongside them.
  • Ability to manage operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
  • Holds crews accountable for safety, productivity, and quality.
  • Capable of mentoring junior foremen and operators.
  • Ability to run a job independently in the field.
  • Plans work daily and one to three weeks ahead.
  • Coordinates materials, equipment, inspections, and subcontractors.
  • Keeps work progressing without daily project manager direction.
  • Trench safety Competent Person.
  • Working knowledge of confined space requirements, heavy equipment safety, and traffic control, with ODOT/OTMUTCD preferred.
  • Conducts daily toolbox talks and enforces safety standards.
  • Ability to recognize scope gaps, differing site conditions, and extra work.
  • Documents quantities, photos, and time-and-material work.
  • Communicates potential change orders early to the project manager.
  • Completes daily reports, timecards, and safety documentation.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with inspectors, engineers, owners, and project managers.
  • Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet, email, and field documentation software such as Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Understands production rates and labor efficiency.
  • Recognizes schedule impacts and adjusts sequencing accordingly.
  • Avoids rework through planning and communication.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
  • Takes ownership of job outcomes.
  • Maintains a professional jobsite presence.
  • Willing to work extended hours as needed to meet schedule.
