About The Position

Sheet Metal Foreman I VMG Mechanical, a Modigent company Position Summary The Sheet Metal Foreman I reports directly to the Project Superintendent and is responsible for leading and managing a crew of Sheet Metal Technicians to deliver high-quality installations, exceptional customer service, and profitable project outcomes. This leadership role involves close collaboration with company leadership to align team efforts with VMG Mechanical's goals, proactively solving issues, coordinating site activities, and upholding the highest standards of safety, craftsmanship, and efficiency in commercial HVAC and mechanical projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4+ years of progressive experience in commercial sheet metal/HVAC installation and leadership roles.
  • Journeyman sheet metal license (current or ability to obtain promptly).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and prepare accurate materials lists/takeoffs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and professional in appearance and conduct.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and follow up on commitments both internally and externally.
  • Commitment to safety leadership and upholding best-in-class practices at all times.
  • Candidates must be able to meet the physical demands (e.g., lifting heavy materials, standing for extended periods, climbing), pass any required screenings, and adhere strictly to safety protocols.

  • Experience with government or municipal facilities is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and resolve potential issues to prevent them from becoming problems, ensuring smooth project execution.
  • Review project scope, equipment, and subcontractor details with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager post-procurement.
  • Conduct physical site surveys with the Superintendent to assess conditions and provide written reports to the Project Manager as needed.
  • Perform accurate and timely takeoffs in collaboration with the Superintendent to support planning and budgeting.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site operations, including scheduling, material control, equipment rentals, and crew assignments.
  • Provide daily progress updates, including job completion percentages, to keep leadership informed.
  • Ensure all site personnel comply with project procedures, safety regulations, company policies, and other requirements; document incidents immediately, notify the Project Manager and Superintendent, and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee completion and timely submission of weekly reports (e.g., safety/toolbox talks, preconstruction, production, and project-specific reports) to the office.
  • Conduct regular job site inspections to verify work meets VMG Mechanical's quality standards; prepare jobs for readiness, participate in startups as needed, and coordinate with contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and owners.
  • Coordinate with the shop team for production scheduling, material fabrication, and on-time deliveries.
  • Lead by example to increase team efficiency, maintain high safety standards, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
