About The Position

Foreman I – Sheet Metal Summary/Objective The Sheet Metal Foreman leads and manages a crew of Sheet Metal Technicians on commercial and institutional projects, ensuring exceptional quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Reporting directly to the Project Superintendent, this role collaborates closely with project leadership to align with company goals, drive profitable outcomes, and deliver high-performance mechanical installations. The Foreman proactively solves issues, coordinates on-site activities, and upholds VMG Mechanical's commitment to excellence in HVAC, plumbing, and related mechanical services across Central Florida. Essential Functions / Responsibilities Proactively identify potential issues and develop solutions to prevent them from escalating into problems, ensuring smooth project execution. Review project scopes, drawings, and requirements with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager after equipment procurement and subcontractor awards. Conduct physical site surveys with the Superintendent to assess conditions and provide written reports to the Project Manager as needed. Perform accurate and timely material takeoffs in collaboration with the Superintendent. Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site operations, including crew scheduling, material control, equipment rentals, and daily progress tracking. Provide daily job completion percentages and maintain detailed field documentation. Ensure all site personnel comply with project procedures, safety protocols, company policies, OSHA requirements, and other regulations; document incidents immediately, notify the Project Manager and Superintendent, and implement corrective actions. Oversee completion and timely submission of weekly reports, including safety/toolbox talks, preconstruction meetings, production updates, and any project-specific documentation. Conduct job site inspections to verify work meets VMG Mechanical standards, confirm readiness for key milestones, participate in system start-ups as needed, and coordinate with contractors, engineers, subcontractors, owners, and other stakeholders. Coordinate with the shop team for production scheduling, material fabrication, and on-time deliveries to the job site. Lead the crew to maximize efficiency, maintain high safety standards, and deliver quality installations on time and within budget. Foster a professional, collaborative team environment while upholding excellent communication and follow-through. Work Environment This role operates primarily on active construction job sites with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and mechanical hazards. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times. Occasional office/shop visits may occur. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Full-time position. Hours are typically Monday through Friday, with early starts and potential overtime, weekends, or extended shifts based on project demands and schedules. Travel Primarily local to regional travel within Central Florida for job sites; occasional out-of-area travel may be required for larger projects. Required Education and Experience Minimum 4+ years of experience as a Sheet Metal Journeyman or Foreman in commercial mechanical/HVAC installations. Journeyman status or ability to obtain relevant licensing/certification. Proven ability to read blueprints, prepare material lists, and manage field operations. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and any required safety certifications. Preferred Qualifications Experience working on government, institutional, healthcare, or educational facilities. OSHA 10/30 certification or equivalent safety training. Familiarity with project management tools, software, or digital reporting systems. Knowledge of local building codes and mechanical standards in Florida.
