About The Position

Supervises the activities of and personnel assigned to the Custodial & Landscaping Services Branch of Facilities Maintenance. Assigns work and/or supervises employees involved in the maintenance of equipment (Journeyman Mechanics), Landscape Maintenance (Serviceperson IA), and Custodial/Landscape Services (Serviceperson VI). Because of the large scope of responsibility and safety involved, this position requires 24 hour "on-call" availability, to respond during emergencies, special events, weather related problems, etc. INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.

Requirements

  • A high school education or equivalent and a minimum of four (4) years' experience in building maintenance, equipment maintenance, landscape maintenance or horticulture processes.
  • Must have experience working with personal computers, using word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Experience in the use of computer software such as Windows 95/98, Excel, and Word programs.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (verbally) to give employee assignments, facilitate meetings, interface with customers, and provide reports to other Departments within MARTA.
  • Must be able to write grammatically correct letters, memos, and reports.
  • Must have basic math skills in order to mix specified chemical products and estimate work schedule time at each location.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be able to perform arithmetic calculations to include percentages.
  • Must have basic reasoning ability in order to make logical decisions about cleaning processes, public safety, and how to deal with customer concerns.
  • Must be able to make sound decisions on material and personnel utilization.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift 110lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to easily stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Must pass a physical examination required by MARTA including alcohol/drug screen.
  • Must be able to work wayside.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to access locations such as tunnels, manholes, and crawl spaces.
  • Must work outdoors and in inclement weather and in the vicinity of high voltage.
  • This position requires 24-hour "on call" availability, to respond during emergencies, special events, weather related problems, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree or greater is desired.
  • Experience in a planned maintenance environment, as well as working knowledge of the technical terminology relevant to the Office's specialty, is highly desirable.
  • College education may substitute year-for-year for experience requirement.
  • Knowledge of the current Labor Contract, along with experience dealing with Union Representatives is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns work to and supervises Branch employees. Ensures day-to-day activities, in support of Branch work goals, are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policies and procedures.
  • Coaches personnel on proper performance of work, frequently providing direct technical assistance.
  • Plans, monitors, evaluates, and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintain a high-performance environment.
  • Inspects completed work to verify satisfactory results.
  • Develops, performs and records maintenance inspections as appropriate.
  • Monitors inventory levels to ensure enough supply of materials are available to promote efficient operations. Orders supplies and materials through the MPAC System.
  • Monitors equipment operation for productivity and quality improvement opportunity.
  • Prepares and monitors work orders on all assigned work performed.
  • Makes and evaluates recommendations regarding the purchase of new equipment, new chemicals, and new policies and procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring external contracts related to the area of assignment.
  • Prepares materials and facilitates CQI, safety and other scheduled training classes and meetings.
  • Develops and maintains positive, high productivity work groups; maintains positive interface with internal and external customers.
  • Maintains up-to-date records on time and attendance, issues verbal and written warnings, and counsel employees, when necessary, in accordance with MARTA policy on time and attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
