About The Position

The Foreman - Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) is the highest-level technical role in the Automation organization and the front-line supervisor for I&E Techs. Under limited direction of the Construction Coordinator, this role directs daily field automation operations, start-up/commissioning, optimization, and maintenance of automation edge devices, gas measurement systems, SCADA/EFM, and telemetry. The Foreman – I&E plans work, assigns resources, mentors the team, coordinates contractors, enforces safety and compliance requirements, and serves as the primary liaison between Production Operations and field automation personnel to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance aligned with company goals. This position champions the continuous improvement of the local safety culture and is accountable for the team’s safety performance and environmental stewardship. This role requires impeccable integrity and the ability to instill strong and positive team morale. The Foreman – I&E is an integral leader in the South Texas field and offices out of Carrizo Springs, Texas.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills, to build trust and to oversee, crew coordination, mentoring, and contractor oversight.
  • Working knowledge and practical application of OSHA 1910 Subpart S electrical work practices, LOTO (1910.147), NFPA 70E, and hazardous-location requirements per NEC Article 500/OSHA 1910.307/API RP 500.
  • Proficiency with PLC/RTU programming and troubleshooting, HMI/SCADA configuration, instrumentation (HART), VFDs/MCCs, 24 VDC/120-480 VAC, industrial networking (Modbus, DNP3), and radio/microwave/cellular communications.
  • Proficient to advanced computer skills to work with Microsoft Office, eVin, CygNet, Zedi, Spotfire, SCADA/EFM tools; vendor configuration suites.
  • Skilled with CMMS work management, loop/logic check sheets, redlines/as-builts, and audit-ready records.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills to resolve complex technical issues and develop streamlined processes.
  • Strong organizational skills to meet needs and deadlines of the department.
  • Excellent project and stakeholder management to deliver timely results within scope and support cross-functional coordination.
  • Work in temperatures between -20 and 100+ degrees Fahrenheit on a seasonal basis
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safe work behavior and habits.
  • Maneuver heavy objects and operate machinery.
  • Operate a vehicle safely (in all weather conditions) to drive to oil & gas equipment locations located in rural/open country.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 7+ years in Oil & Gas field automation/I&E, including commissioning, optimization, and maintenance of RTUs/PLCs, SCADA/EFM, telemetry, analyzers/GCs, instruments, and low/medium-voltage power distribution.
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • OEM/vendor certifications for PLC/RTU/SCADA platforms.
  • Familiarity with safety-instrumented systems concepts (ISA-84/IEC 61511) when interacting with shutdown logic and proof-testing.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s in Instrumentation, Electrical, or related field.
  • Texas Journeyman or Master Electrician.
  • OSHA-10/OSHA-30 or equivalent electrical safety coursework.
  • NFPA 70E training certificate (current).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, and review daily/weekly work for I&E Technicians and coordinate contractor crews and schedules.
  • Mentor and develop technicians through coaching, on-the-job training, and skills assessments; promote standard work and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the liaison between field technicians and other Field Leaders; escalate risks and resource constraints promptly.
  • Maintain & monitor I&E material inventory to ensure daily operations are not impacted.
  • Assist with procurement of material and equipment for capital/AFE projects.
  • Own the spending within area of accountability.
  • Report and provide feedback on daily/weekly/monthly operating expenses. This position may also be required to submit monthly accruals for specific categories.
  • Act with responsibility and exercise authority to stop unsafe work by employees, contractors, or any other personnel on Jonah operated sites.
  • Lead team members to do the same and create a culture where inquiry and Stop Work Obligation are welcomed. This culture is a primary mitigating factor in our daily operations.
  • Participate and be a leader in EHS processes and proactive safety program. Each company employee is expected to provide quality observations that help improve our operations. Team members are also required to report any unsafe or dangerous activities immediately.
  • Champion safe work practices; ensure adherence to OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S electrical safety work practices and the site Lockout/Tagout program (1910.147) including training, procedure use, and annual verification.
  • Enforce NFPA 70E (arc-flash/shock risk assessments, boundaries, and PPE) and verify energized work is justified, permitted, and documented.
  • Oversee installations and maintenance in hazardous (classified) locations per NEC (NFPA 70) Article 500/OSHA 1910.307 and apply API RP 500 guidance for equipment selection and documentation.
  • Oversee installation, calibration, testing, and maintenance of field instrumentation including: Pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters Control valves, actuators, and positioners Analyzers and metering equipment
  • Troubleshoot instrument loops, signal issues, and control problems. Verify proper loop checks, I/O checks, and commissioning activities.
  • Direct and perform start-up/commissioning, loop/logic checks, FAT/SAT as needed; validate cause-and-effect and shutdown logic.
  • Oversee optimization and maintenance of RTUs/PLCs, VFDs/MCCs, EFM, analyzers/GCs, instruments (24 VDC, 120/240/480 VAC), radios/microwave/cellular, and SCADA/HMI.
  • Review and approve job plans, redlines, and as-built updates for drawings (P&IDs, wiring, loop sheets); enforce QA/QC and documentation completeness.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for automation failures and chronic issues.
  • Own Management of Change (MOC) for automation/SCADA modifications (risk review, approvals, rollback plans, post-implementation review).
  • Ensure CMMS planning, PM/PdM execution, asset master data accuracy, and audit-ready records (loop checks, calibrations, EFM audit trails).
  • Coordinate with IT/OT on network segmentation, secure remote access, role-based access control, and logging consistent with control-system security best practices.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Measurement, Construction, EHS, and Regulatory to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution.
  • Align team output to asset KPIs (uptime, event response, PM compliance, spend vs. budget), and support budget inputs for tools, parts, and contractors.
  • Align priorities and results with Jonah Energy asset goals.
