About The Position

This position is accountable for directing activities of workers concerned with building and setting forms made of wood, metal, vinyl, and other materials in accordance with customer specifications (plans) on Concrete Structural Construction. The incumbent must have the ability and flexibility to work varying shifts and long hours (8-12 hours). Weekend work and extra hours occur according to production needs and at the discretion of the Supervisor. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, most importantly with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity. All employees, current and former, must maintain confidentiality by not disclosing to others any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to the Company. The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill all safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of experience finishing concrete structures and pier foundations, setting steel preformed forming systems, and pouring concrete.
  • Understanding of Concrete Structural Construction.
  • Experience directing others within a small work unit executing work procedures.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to work in constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • Ability to lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and other similar activities as needed.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
  • Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required (hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other protective equipment).
  • Ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management including corporate and executive.
  • Ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel.
  • Capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on the basis of starting and completion times for specific phases of construction.
  • Assembles members of a crew at the start of the project.
  • Collaborates with the supervisor on orders for procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Confers with and assists the superintendent in the supervision of personnel engaged in executing work procedures.
  • Interprets plans and specifications and coordinates various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the workforce.
  • Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adherence to construction schedules.
  • Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used, and costs and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
  • Directs workers concerned with major maintenance or reconditioning projects for existing installations.
  • Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long-lasting use.
  • Maintain confidentiality by not disclosing to others any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to the Company.
  • Responsible and accountable for incumbent's own personal safety.
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any other incumbents encountered.
  • Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
  • Reports all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).
