Summary: Tray passer The Food Service Worker performs a variety of essential functions related to the safe and efficient assembly, distribution, and service of meals for hospital patients, staff, and visitors. This role supports day-to-day food service operations while maintaining cleanliness, safety, and excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Yes
  • Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards.
  • Must be able to read menu items in English (exception is the pot-washer position).
  • Must be able to communicate in English (exception is the pot-washer position).
  • Must be able to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work requires ability to push trucks and carts with food and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Attend department meetings, in-services, and training sessions as assigned.
  • Anticipate and respond to customer needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of work areas and department equipment.
  • Demonstrate a friendly and positive attitude when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Follow all HACCP food safety standards and hospital protocols.
  • Communicate concerns, shortages, or discrepancies to supervisors promptly.
  • Support department goals related to operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Work in various roles, including the tray line, cafeteria, and kitchen stations.
  • Set up and stock food stations for meal service; assemble and deliver patient trays.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment, stations, and floors after each meal period.
  • May operate dish machines, trash compactors, and perform general cleaning tasks.
  • Prepare supplemental food items for patient tray service.
  • Participate in sanitation and cleaning projects as assigned by the manager.
  • Assist with the training and cross-training of new and existing employees.
