About The Position

The Food Service Worker part-time is responsible for preparing breakfast, lunch, and snack and serving breakfast and lunch as well as special events, while maintaining compliance with the Food Safety and Sanitation Regulations in a timely yet effective manner.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirement: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Follows standards of excellence for providing and maintaining quality in the presentation and service of food
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, visitors, children, coworkers, and other employees
  • Accept responsibility for own actions and decisions, and demonstrate commitment to accomplish work in an ethical and efficient manner
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with teachers and other staff to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrate principles of creating and maintaining a safe work environment including cleaning and sanitizing
  • Demonstrate an understanding of food temperature/time controls

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with meal preparation and working in a school setting preferred
  • Allergen Training Certificate & Food Handler Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in taking temperatures of food (at delivery and point of service) and equipment (freezer, refrigerator). Maintain up to date and organized records of temperatures.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean kitchen and kitchen equipment at all times.
  • Partner with Food Service Worker colleagues to maintain daily menu production records.
  • Ensure that main kitchen operation needs, issues, or problems are communicated in a timely and professional manner to Nutrition Specialist and/or Health and Nutrition Manager.
  • Participate in receiving orders from vendors, ensuring that proper items have been delivered, and organizing food storage.
  • Adhere to sanitation and safety procedures prescribed for the Child and Family kitchen in compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Assemble food, dishes, utensils and supplies needed for timely meal preparation.
  • Discard all utensils/dishware using approved sanitation methods. Return all items to their proper storage site.
  • Participate in individualized continuing education plan such as, Allergen Training, CPR and First Aid, Food Handler certification, and other trainings required from Dimock Center and Child and Family.
  • Assist in inspection of foods, including quality and quantity and appropriateness for service to children 4 months to 5 years of age.
  • Assist in recording reports from staff related to acceptance/rejection of foods and communicating it to Nutrition Specialist.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about food allergies and conditions of children. Ensure that appropriate foods are served.
  • Ability to provide additional center or classroom support as needed.
  • Follow all general staff responsibilities in addition to specific job responsibilities.
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Monitoring portion sizes of meal components to ensure that meals are meeting the CACFP requirements.
  • Assembling and serving breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks following the delivery schedule and maintaining food safety by using food allergen substitution list.
