About The Position

BASIC FUNCTION: The Food Service Worker, Lead is responsible for the smooth operation of Collins Dining Hall. This position coordinates the work of the dining hall staff for set-up, service, and clean-up of the dinner meal and snack. Customer service, open communication with the chef and manager on duty, and an awareness of flow through the dining hall at dinner and snack are essential elements of this position. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting to the General Manager of Bon Appetit, the Food Service Worker, Lead performs the following essential duties and responsibilities: Coordinate the set-up of the meal, entrees, deli, salad bar, beverage station, dessert station, and other active stations to ensure that all are well stocked, clean, and well merchandised. Ensure that the dining room is clean and that all tables and chairs are wiped down. Confirm all menu signage is in place, the tray return is clean, and evaluate other house standards as required. Coordinate customer service efforts during mealtime and snack including greeting customers, restocking stations, serving properly portioned snack items, ensuring cleanliness, and monitoring traffic flow. Foster a positive environment with employees and students. Ensure all students have access to snack items. Serve hot items to each student. Ensure all students enter and exit through appropriate doors and that dining hall china, tumblers, and flatware do not leave the dining hall. Ensure all foods are properly stored and locked before clocking out at the end of the shift. Ensure that equipment and lights are off and that all doors are locked when leaving Collins Dining Hall. Coordinate clean-up efforts for all the stations in the servery and dining room at the conclusion of the meal. Ensure all areas are properly broken down, cleaned, and sanitized. Follow proper food preparation and sanitation directives as established by the Health Department. Comply with internal policies and procedures as they apply to food, sanitation, and safety within the Dining Hall. Direct other Café employees to take their breaks and fill in as necessary. Inform general manager, either directly or via voicemail, of any unusual circumstances which may arise. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate. This includes daily, weekly or monthly cleaning and cross training as time permits.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability.
  • Must have experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • A California food handler card is required.
  • Must take and successfully pass a functional physical agility test after job offer and prior to hire.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stop, twist, stretch, squat, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist level without assistance.
  • Must be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a post-offer functional physical agility test.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation policies and procedures is required.
  • Must have experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen using commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Must be able to perform simple arithmetic functions relating to food and beverage preparation.
  • Take initiative in performance of work tasks and be willing to assist others as needed.
  • Must be respectful and courteous to coworkers, customers, visitors, managers and others.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Must possess organizational and time management skills.
  • Complete work with a sense of urgency, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to establish cooperative working relationships and work well with minimal supervision.
  • Deploy professional skills in collaboration with colleagues to best promote the College’s strategic interests and provide the best quality on campus food services.
  • Must be able to understand and follow basic instructions in English, both orally and written.
